Escape into Nature in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Our 6th stop on our 94 Days of Summer and
Discovery Tour is to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park! Though a short distance
from the urban areas of Cleveland and Akron, Cuyahoga Valley National Park
seems worlds away. The park is a refuge for native plants and wildlife and
provides routes of discovery for visitors. The winding Cuyahoga River gives way
to deep forests, rolling hills, and open farmlands. Walk or ride the Towpath
Trail to follow the historic route of the Ohio & Erie Canal.
This exciting location has something for everyone and will
make for a day or more worth of excitement during your staycation this summer.
With so much to see or do here are a few local favorites!

Brandywine Falls is one of the most
popular locations in the park. This 60-foot waterfall is accessed via a partially
accessible boardwalk. For a more challenging trip, take the steep stairs to the
lower viewpoint or the 1.4-mile Brandywine Gorge Trail.

The Ritchie Ledges are witnesses to
change - from creation out of Sharon Conglomerate millions of years ago, to
landscapes wrecked by humans and to preservation today. The Civilian
Conservation Corps created the park you see today, building trails and shelters
throughout the area.

Ben Hen Falls, This 15-foot waterfall is
a beautiful hike any time of year. Hike 1.5 miles (one way) from Boston Mill
Visitor Center. There is an unmarked road crossing at the top of the hill. From
there, the falls are a steep half-mile hike.

The Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail
is open 24 hours, giving you the chance to explore after dark. Within the
national park, the trail is level and hard-packed for people using wheelchairs,
bicycles, or strollers.
While visiting the park a must-stop is at Szalay’s Farm this
local farm market features a large amount of fruit, vegetables, and locally sourced
packages favorites like jam and honey. The large wooden swing and tractor will
be a favorite for kids of all ages. Plus grab a snack and enjoy on their covered
picnic table swings. This cute farmer’s market will keep you busy for hours with
all the options to choose from.
Other things to see and do in the park include horseback
riding, viewing the Cuyahoga Valley landscape from horseback is like no other
experience. Biking or Hiking the trails than when you get to your destination
hopping on the train to bring you back to where you began.
If you want a completely unique experience, then climb on
board the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. The National Park Scenic excursion
is a unique way to experience all the natural wonder Cuyahoga Valley National
Park has to offer. Sit back and relax as the train weaves through the Cuyahoga
Valley and races along with the rushing Cuyahoga River. The route provides
passengers the opportunity to possibly spot eagles, deer, beavers, and otters in
their natural habitat.
