Spend the Night in Frank Lloyd Wright's Penfield House
Our 16th stop on our 94
Days of Summer and Discovery Tour is to spend the night at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Penfield House. Built-in 1955, the Penfield house sits on a rise overlooking
the Chagrin River. This 1,730-square-foot house in Ohio is one of the nine
Usonian houses the architect designed in the state. Wright modified the typical
proportions of this three-bedroom Usonian homes for Louis Penfield’s house to
accommodate the artist and schoolteacher’s six-foot, eight-inch frame.
The house features an exceptionally high ceiling, a narrow
floating staircase, tall doors, and 12-foot floor-to-ceiling windows that offer
panoramic views of the surrounding wooded area and a distant overlook to the
nearby Chagrin River. This elegant piece of history is available to reserve for
overnight stays. The house that sleeps up to five comfortably is surrounded by 30
wooded acres with the Chagrin River running directly through the property. The house
is fully equipped with three bedrooms, one and a half baths and all the
comforts of home.
Described as intimate, spiritual, and elegant a night spent
here is not only a relaxing piece of history but also one you won’t soon
forget.
